As summer ends, here is a list of the top 5 most important tasks to tackle this fall. These will help you get ready for the cold winter months!
Clean your gutters.
Clearing your gutters is an important part of home maintenance. Clogged gutters can cause water damage to your home, yard, and roof, not to mention increase your chance of flooding.
Check smoke detectors.
It only take a minute and it can save a life! Test the test button to see if the alarm sounds. If yours require batteries, go ahead and grab a fresh set and change them while you are up there.
Inspect and clean your chimney.
Depending on how often you use your fireplace to burn wood, creosote residue will build up in your chimney. A large number of house fires start when creosote (a carbonaceous chemical) builds up on the interior of your chimney. Hire an experienced, reliable chimney sweep to mechanically clean your chimney, removing tar and creosote.
Get an annual HVAC check-up.
This can prevent the need for costly repairs (or a broken A/C in the heat of summer). You should also change out your air filters monthly.
Trim trees near your home’s exterior.
A strong wind or storm could topple these over and damage your house.
Enjoy the changing colors of the leaves and crispness in the fall air.
